Sex crime charges against Iowa man dropped

Anyone charged with a sex offense faces a serious problem, as a host of life-altering consequences can result from a conviction. One Iowa man can breathe a sigh of relief, though, now that a court has dismissed the sex crime charges against him.

The criminal charges were filed in October 2013 and relate to an alleged series of events on Feb. 16, 2013, when the man met a woman at a bar. The pair reportedly went to another bar together, and after the man asked the woman if she was ready to go home, the two stood by his car. She told investigators that the man kissed her while they were standing next to the vehicle and that she didn't return the kiss.

Apparently, the two got in the man's car, and the woman said she believed they were returning to the first drinking establishment, where her own vehicle was parked. Instead, the pair ended up at the man's house.

According to statements the woman made to investigators, she entered the residence, where she claims she was pushed by the man up against a counter in his kitchen. She also said that she was assaulted after the man forced her into a bedroom.

At about 2 a.m. that night, the man reportedly returned the woman to her vehicle. She later told investigators that the man tried to contact her for several days via text message, but she didn't respond.

The man was facing numerous felony charges and one gross misdemeanor charge, all of which were dropped by prosecutors, who said the evidence in the case was insufficient to prove guilt.

Unfortunately, even when a sex crime allegation is never substantiated, the accused individual can still suffer significant reputation damage. A criminal defense attorney with experience in this area of the law can help mitigate negative consequences and seek a favorable resolution that protects the rights of the accused.
