Iowa domestic dispute leads to assault charges for man and woman

When emotions run high, people tend to do uncharacteristic things, and sometimes heated arguments result in criminal charges. One recent early morning in Iowa, an argument inside of a parked car led to an accident and resulted in a number of criminal charges against a man and a woman.

According to police, the series of incidents occurred at around 2:15 a.m. on April 27 when the 22-year-old man and a woman became engaged in an argument inside the vehicle. At some point, the woman reportedly got out of the car and went into a house. Police believe the young man followed her, somehow forced his way into the home and assaulted someone before leaving the residence.

Allegedly, as the man was attempting to drive away, the car hit the house and two other vehicles. The car he was driving then crashed and rolled, and he reportedly left the scene of the accident on foot.

In addition to a range of traffic-related offenses, the man has been charged with misdemeanor domestic assault and public intoxication.  The woman also faces charges stemming from the incident. She is accused of misdemeanor domestic assault, as well as a violation relating to a no-contact order.

With any situation involving allegations of domestic assault, the circumstances that led up to the charge have to be carefully scrutinized. Anyone accused of a crime must be presumed innocent unless the prosecution can prove otherwise beyond a reasonable doubt. If you ever find yourself facing any kind of criminal charge, then do not hesitate to contact a criminal defense attorney to protect your rights and freedom.
