Rites of spring take a lot of different forms. Each community probably has its own. Some have a way of being a little more rowdy than others. It's not clear why, but it seems that the colder the winter, the more raucous the events tend to become.
The wheels of justice don't always turn swiftly. That's despite language in the Constitution that provides that anyone charged has the right to a speedy trial. Federal crime probes can be particularly slow moving. Indictments can come years after the purported crimes have been committed.
Among the rights we are taught to hold dear in the United States is the right to vote. Many might argue that the sense of privilege that has long been associated with that right has been replaced by a general sense of apathy. A lot of people just don't bother to go to the polls. Turnout may be bad in major election years, and even worse in off years.
