Franz L. Becker is an attorney at the firm. He’s a native Iowan who was born and raised on the bluffs of Dubuque. Franz attended Loras College where he studied Politics, History, and International Studies, graduating Magna Cum Lade. He then earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College where he graduated with distinction. In law school, Franz served as an extern for Justice Brent Appel at the Iowa Supreme Court. He earned the faculty award for Legal Ethics and the Jurisprudence Award for the top paper in Smoking and Tobacco Regulation. During his last semester, Franz worked full-time at the office of the public defender, where he tried his first jury trial to a not guilty verdict before graduating.
After law school Franz went to work as a public defender, where he represented hundreds of clients charged with all levels of crimes, from simple misdemeanors to the most serious class A felonies. In his first year as a lawyer, Franz tried 3 cases to not guilty jury verdicts.
Franz is a zealous advocate for each of his clients. He enjoys getting to help people navigate the all too scary and stressful criminal justice system to achieve the best possible outcome.
Franz lives in Iowa City where he enjoys getting to do what he loves in the place he loves. Outside of work, Franz serves on the board of directors at Community Crisis Services and Food Bank, enjoys walking and reading, and a good game of pickleball.
